A mobile notary is a commissioned notary public who travels to you instead of making you travel to them. In a county this spread out, that is usually the difference between a signing taking twenty minutes and taking half a day. We cover every city in San Diego County, 24 hours a day.

What we notarize

Almost anything that needs a California notarial certificate. The most common jobs we get called for are:

  • Powers of attorney – general, limited, durable and medical
  • Affidavits and sworn statements, including jurats requiring an oath
  • Trusts, trust amendments and other estate documents (a California will is witnessed, not notarized; we notarize signatures and cannot draft or advise)
  • Deeds, grant deeds and quitclaim deeds
  • Vehicle title transfers and DMV forms
  • Parental consent and travel letters for minors, custody and support agreements
  • Corporate resolutions, operating agreements and commercial contracts
  • Insurance and settlement paperwork
  • Certified copies of a power of attorney, and jurats on a custodian's own statement where a copy must be sworn to

One thing a California notary cannot do: we are not attorneys, so we cannot tell you which document to sign, explain what it means for your case or choose the notarial wording for you. If a document does not say whether it needs an acknowledgment or a jurat, the person or agency who gave it to you has to tell you.

What a signing actually involves

The notarization itself is quick. We confirm your identity from a current government-issued photo ID, make sure you are signing willingly and appear to understand what you are signing, watch you sign (or take your acknowledgment that you already did), complete the certificate wording, apply the seal and record the act in our journal. For a jurat we also administer an oath or affirmation.

Every signer must be physically present with their own ID. That is not us being difficult – California law requires personal appearance, and there is no way around it.

What it costs

One flat visit fee, quoted before we book:

ServicePrice
Standard visit: travel anywhere in the county plus up to 3 notarized signatures$95
Each additional signature beyond the first three$15
Document printing$1 per page
Remote areas, long waits or extreme conditionsQuoted in advance

California caps the notarial act itself at $15 per signature, and we never exceed that. The rest of the visit fee is travel and handling, which the law treats separately and which we agree with you in advance. The fee page breaks the figure down line by line.

You will always be told the full figure before we book. See the complete price list.

Where we meet you

Anywhere reasonable and lawful: your kitchen table, your office, a conference room, a coffee shop, a parking lot, a hospital room, a nursing home, a rehab facility, a county jail. We go all over the county, from Oceanside and Carlsbad in the north to Chula Vista and San Ysidro at the border, and east to El Cajon, Santee and Lakeside.

Before we arrive

  • Do not sign yet unless the certificate is an acknowledgment – and if you are unsure, just wait for us.
  • Have the whole document, not just the signature page. We have to see the page being notarized in full.
  • Check your ID has not expired, and that the name on it matches or exceeds the name you are signing.
  • Line up any witnesses the document itself requires. We can act as a witness only to a signature we are not also notarizing, so tell us in advance.

Frequently asked questions

Can you notarize a document that is already signed?

For an acknowledgment, yes – you appear before us and acknowledge that the signature is yours. For a jurat, no: a jurat requires you to sign in the notary's presence and swear to the truth of the contents. If you do not know which one your document needs, leave it unsigned and we will work it out on arrival.

Do you provide witnesses?

Ask when booking and we will tell you whether we can bring a witness for your appointment. The notary cannot be both the notary and a witness on the same signature. Many documents do not need witnesses at all – check the document or ask whoever issued it.

My ID is expired. Can you still notarize?

Not from the expired ID alone. California allows an ID issued within the past five years in some circumstances, and otherwise permits identification by two credible witnesses who know you and have their own valid ID. Call us before booking and we will work out which route applies to you.

Can you notarize for someone who cannot physically sign?

Yes. A signer who cannot write their full name may sign by mark, witnessed by two people. What we cannot do is notarize for someone who is unconscious, heavily sedated or unable to indicate that they understand and want to sign. We will tell you honestly on arrival if that is the situation.

Do you do remote online notarization?

No, and no California notary may. California law requires the signer to appear physically before the notary, and the Online Notarization Act (SB 696) does not become operative until the Secretary of State completes its technology project, with a backstop date of January 1, 2030. Any California notary offering to notarize you over video today is acting outside the law. A notarization performed by a notary commissioned in a state that does permit it is a different matter and is recognized here. Full explanation in our guide: can a California notary notarize online?

Do you speak languages other than English?

The notary must be able to communicate directly with you about the notarial act, so if you need a language other than English, tell us when booking and we will say right away whether we can cover it. For translated documents, see certified translation.
